The Opioid Epidemic
Opioid addiction affects millions of Americans and their families across all races and income levels. As our members’ trusted health partner, we want to help them get support and recovery services in a compassionate environment.
Centers of Excellence (COEs) and Other Resources
COEs address opioid addiction
COEs are clinics that provide support and resources for people seeking services and treatment. Services include: |

When our members visit a COE, they should bring their Health Partners Plans ID card. They can schedule an appointment or walk in but are encouraged to check the hours and days of operation before visiting a center. They will receive treatment at no cost to them. The COE will send claims directly to us for payment. |

Note: Although your patient can visit a COE without talking to you, your involvement helps increase the success of his or her recovery from opioid addiction. |
DHS issued a “Specialty Designation” MA bulletin on July 1 that details a process for how providers interested in receiving a Center of Excellence designation can apply.
In addition, a PROMISe application is now to obtain or maintain this designation. This means all COEs must apply, even those currently designated as COEs.
Effective Jan. 1, 2021, MCOs will only pay the G9012 procedure code for COE care management services to providers that are enrolled in the PROMISE system with the Opioid COE specialty designation.
The bulletin is available on the DHS and COE webpage.
Note: The bulletin references Sept. 1, 2020. This is not the due date to register, but the date by which an enrollment decision will be made by Jan. 1, 2021.
